MTB GUAJIRA is a bicycle tour that offers you the opportunity to explore Guajira, the northernmost department of Colombia, where the desert meets the Caribbean Sea. For five days, you will pedal along roads and trails that will take you to discover the beauty and magic of this territory, its natural and cultural attractions, its history and its people.
Day 1: Arrival in Riohacha Riohacha will be our meeting point. You will have the day to enjoy its beaches, the tourist pier, walk through the artisan market, watch the sunset and get ready for what will be our adventure. Riohacha is the capital of Guajira and a city with a lot of history and charm. Here you can appreciate the influence of the Wayuu culture in architecture, art and gastronomy. You can also buy typical crafts such as backpacks, hats and hammocks.
Day 2: First stage of the tour: Riohacha - Manaure Today we will begin our bicycle route. We will travel 75 km from Riohacha to Manaure, passing through beautiful beaches like Mayapo, where we can cool off and admire the contrast between the blue of the sea and the yellow of the sand. We will arrive pedaling along the Manaure salt flats, a spectacle of colors and shapes that extends over more than 4,000 hectares. Manaure is the main producer of salt in the country and a place of great importance for the Wayuu economy and culture.
Day 3: Manaure - Cabo de la Vela We will continue our trip to Cabo de la Vela, an incredible place that awaits us at the end of the Guajira peninsula. We will go along the route parallel to the Cerrejón train line, the largest coal mining complex in the world, where we will possibly get to observe the passing of the enormous wagons. The arrival at Cabo de la Vela is fantastic. We will feel the sea breeze while we pedal, the magical colors of the sea that we can observe, the combination of landscapes that make pedaling something great. Cabo de la Vela is a first-class tourist destination, recognized for its natural beauty, its spiritual importance for the Wayuu and its potential for practicing water sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing. Here we will stay in rancherías, typical cabins built with wood and palm, where we can enjoy the hospitality and food of the Wayuu hosts. In the afternoon, we will go to the lighthouse, an emblematic place to observe the beautiful sunset and feel the energy of this sacred site.
Day 4: Cabo de la Vela Circuit Today we will do a circuit around Cabo de la Vela, where we will go to the wind farms located near Puerto Libertador, pedaling next to the wind giants make the tour incredible. The wind farms are an example of the commitment to renewable energies in this area, where wind is an abundant and constant resource. On our return, we will go to Pan de Azúcar hill, an iconic place of the Wayuu culture, where we can appreciate a panoramic view of Cabo de la Vela and its surroundings. Enjoying the immensity of Cabo de la Vela makes the experience incredible.
Day 5: Return to the places of origin Today we will say goodbye to Guajira and its wonders. We will travel from Cabo de la Vela to Riohacha and take the flight that takes us to our places of origin after having enjoyed an incredible cycling experience in La Guajira. We will carry in our hearts and in our memories the memories of this trip, the people we met, the landscapes we admired, the sensations we experienced. We hope you enjoyed this adventure as much as we did and that you visit us again soon.
